About Bertrand Copigneaux

I’m currently mainly working on European research project (FP7, Horizon 2020) and studies for the European Commission. I’m the project coordinator of a large IP project on the Internet of Things: BUTLER, and involved in several other projects. My day to day tasks involve project and proposal management, active research work, dissemination and communication and project exploitation. My interests are in the socio-economical impacts and challenges linked with information and communication technologies. I have been involve in studies of the business innovation and ecosystems, ethical impact, security and privacy issues, and openness (open science, open data, open society) of ICT innovations, especially around the Internet of Things domain. Regarding my background: I have a Dipl. Ing. in computer science from university of Nice Sophia Antipolis, I started my career as an entrepreneur by creating a company called SimplySim, focused in 3D simulations. I have been the COO of this company for more than 4 years, during which I have handled a variety of subjects from sales and marketing, admin and finance to managing the team (up to 10 people). We sold the company in 2011, and after a year working on a smooth transition (product management) with the new management structure I left, looking for new challenges. keywords: European research project; Internet of Things; Socio-economical impacts and challenges; Entrepreneur.
